Philosophy of Education
Middle school is a pivotal time for students-academically and personally. I believe that it is important that teachers realize that we are both responsible for educating the student and the person. I believe that classrooms that can keep students engaged and open to putting forth their best effort to learn the material and be excited about becoming a life-long learner are the classrooms that will be the face of education. Those classrooms will develop students that will go on to make a positive impact on the world. As a teacher, I am responsible for exposing my students to multiple formats of instruction and providing them with the tools that will help them persist throughout their academic career. It is important to present material in a way the students can understand, drawing connections between prior knowledge and life experiences, while still challenging and developing their thought processes. I want to help my students realize that whoever it is that is doing the great things my students want to do-that can be them. Time in a classroom is not just about learning content, it is about setting goals and realizing potential. Using the classroom, our students can learn respect for those around them, as well as themselves, and responsibility for their choices and actions.
